CASE STUDY 4
Account-Based Growth
Turning fragmented prospecting into a focused system for identifying the right accounts, understanding the buying group, and coordinating pursuit strategy.
Industry: National insurance brokerage
Business Context: Multi-line regional sales organization
My role: VP, Client Strategy and Cross Sell
Focus: Revenue growth · Account strategy · Decision intelligence
The Constraint
The problem was not finding more companies to contact. It was knowing which accounts deserved focused attention and creating a coordinated strategy for reaching them.
Prospecting depended heavily on individual producer habits, personal networks, cold outreach, and the ability to recognize opportunity account by account.
There was no consistent model for determining which prospects warranted greater investment or for understanding the people involved in a complex buying decision before outreach began.
Even when attractive accounts were identified, research and engagement could remain fragmented across channels. The opportunity was larger than improving prospect lists. It was creating a more deliberate way to decide where to focus and how to pursue.
The System
I designed an account-based growth capability that combines target prioritization, buying-group intelligence, account-specific strategy, and coordinated engagement.
Target Account Prioritization
Qualified prospect data and growth intelligence are used to identify and prioritize accounts with stronger evidence of strategic opportunity.Buying-Group Intelligence
Research identifies relevant decision-makers and influencers, then builds a clearer picture of their roles, backgrounds, priorities, communication preferences, and public activity.Account Strategy
Account and stakeholder intelligence are synthesized into a pursuit strategy tailored to the organization, its likely needs, and the people involved in the decision.Coordinated Engagement
Email, custom landing pages, phone outreach, LinkedIn, and meeting strategy are designed to reinforce one another rather than operate as disconnected tactics.Performance Feedback
Account progression and outcomes provide a basis for refining priorities, pursuit strategy, and where additional attention should be directed.
“The advantage wasn’t reaching more prospects. It was knowing exactly where to focus.”
My Role
I designed the account-based growth model from targeting through pursuit execution, combining business strategy, AI-assisted research, workflow design, and coordinated activation.
Defined the target-account prioritization approach
Designed the buying-group research and stakeholder-mapping process
Integrated AI-assisted research and synthesis into account preparation
Developed the account-level pursuit framework
Designed coordinated outreach across digital and human channels
Created supporting landing-page and messaging approaches
Established a repeatable workflow for moving from account intelligence to action
Refined the model based on pursuit activity and outcomes
The Result
A more disciplined growth capability that turned prospecting from individual activity into coordinated account pursuit.
-

Focused Prospecting
Teams could concentrate effort on a defined set of strategically important accounts rather than treating all prospects alike.
-

Buyer Group Visibility
Producers entered conversations with a stronger understanding of the people involved, their roles, and the dynamics surrounding the decision.
-

Coordinated Engagement
Digital outreach, direct contact, and meeting strategy worked together around a common account plan.
-

Stronger Growth Pipeline
The approach created meaningful new-business wins while developing a larger qualified pipeline for continued pursuit.
Growth becomes more repeatable when targeting, intelligence, and execution are designed as one system.
WHAT THIS DEMONSTRATES
AI made it possible to research accounts and buying groups at a level that would be difficult to sustain manually. But research alone did not create the value. The transformation came from connecting that intelligence to prioritization, strategy, coordinated outreach, and human judgment.
The goal was not to automate prospecting. It was to give people a better basis for deciding where to invest their attention and how to engage.
The Shift
FROM
Broad prospecting driven largely by individual networks, habits, and disconnected outreach.
TO
A focused account-based growth capability built around prioritization, buying-group intelligence, and coordinated pursuit strategy.
